For families walking the road home
A gentle companion for the journey to restoration.
The Always Family Workbook is a guided journal for parents and families navigating the Australian child protection system after the removal of their children — written from a place of lived experience, not a textbook.
“I chose me. I chose change. I chose them.”
The promise this workbook holds
(01) From one mother to another
I built this because I needed it — and I couldn’t find it.
When my daughter was removed from my care, I went looking for something to hold onto. A way to make sense of what was happening, to track the meetings and the visits, to process the grief and the shame, and to keep my eyes on the only thing that mattered: bringing her home.
That road took seven years.
There were hurdles I never imagined — including a time when my own daughter did not know I was her mother. I was told by every professional, every solicitor, even the very system itself, that restoration was not possible. DCJ never supported my case. Not once. Not even through the two-year Section 90 Children's Court case I lodged to fight for her return. They opposed me every step of the way.
In the end, it was the magistrate who ruled restoration. Not because the system believed in me — but because I kept showing up, and I never let them go.
There was nothing like this workbook when I needed it. So I walked the road myself, page by page, and made the journal I wish someone had pressed into my hands. It’s soft enough for the hard days, and structured enough for the days you need to act.
— Written by a mother in restoration, for families still on the road.
(02) Inside the workbook
Guided pages for the heart, the home, and the hearing.
- I.
Holding the grief
Gentle prompts to name what you’re carrying — without judgement, shame, or someone else’s words in your mouth.
- II.
Knowing the system
Plain-language notes on the Australian child protection process, your rights, and the language you’ll hear in meetings and at court.
- III.
Tracking the journey
Space to log contact visits, case plan goals, appointments and small wins — so nothing important slips through the cracks.
- IV.
Choosing the change
Reflection pages for the personal work of restoration: the routines, the people, the choices you’re rebuilding around.
- V.
Letters home
Quiet pages for the words you want your child to one day know — written from this exact chapter of the story.
(03) Who it’s for
For the parent who is still here, still trying.
For mothers, fathers, grandparents and kin who are walking the long road back to their children. For those just at the beginning, and for those deep in the work. For anyone who has been told the system is something to fear, and needs a quiet place to think, plan, and keep going.

A few gentle answers
- Is this legal advice?
- No. The workbook is a personal, emotional and practical companion. It does not replace a lawyer, caseworker, or advocate — but it can help you walk into those rooms with your thoughts in order.
- Do I have to be religious or spiritual to use it?
- Not at all. It’s written in plain, warm language. Bring your own beliefs, or none. The pages will meet you where you are.
- Is it only for mothers?
- No. It’s for any parent, grandparent or kinship carer walking the journey of restoration in Australia.
- When can I get it?
- The workbook is in the final stages of being created. Tap “Be the first to know” above and I’ll quietly let you know the moment it’s ready.
